There is a fantastic exhibit currently on display at the Pasadena Museum of History.
For those living and doing real estate in Pasadena you may have heard the term “Bathchelder fireplace”
This describes the tiles used in the fireplace surround of some homes in the early 20th century designed by local Pasadena tile maker.
This was the most complete display I have seen of the artists work with descriptions of how their company in Pasadena evolved over the years of operation.
Added bonus the museum has recently acquired the archives for this noteworthy tile maker and is in the process of trying to collect and document images of the tiles that still exist out in the world. This is a great opportunity for those who think they may have a Batchelder fireplace in their home to take a picture and send it to the museum for verification and possible inclusion in the archive!
This exhibit is on until February 12th. Don’t miss it!
