Charles Lummis was an early resident of North East Los Angeles, a writer and an advocate for the “southwest”. NELA now celebrates Lummis with Lummis Day annually in early June (and after 13 years it is a whole weekend, not just one day).
My favorite way to participate is a visit to the Lummis House built from Arroyo river rock by Lummis himself and home to many “happens” for art and artists in its day.
The Lummis house has visiting hours year round. Worth a visit!
