Researching Pasadena Schools

If you have school-age children, area schools probably play a part in your new-home
search strategy. The Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) includes schools in Altadena and Sierra Madre.

As a past president of the Pasadena Foothill Association of Realtors (PFAR), I have spent time with the men and women of PUSD, The Pasadena Education Network (PEN), and the Pasadena Education Foundation (PEF). As all these groups work together to get current and accurate information to school-aged children and their families about what is going on in the local public schools.

Not living in Pasadena and not having school-aged children I may not seem like the obvious ally for these pre-K through high school-focused groups. However, I have clients who live in Pasadena and know people who are curious about their options. So able to point protective students and families in the direction of local resources is part of being a local realtor who is involved in the community.

I helped spearhead a program for agents from our association to get educated on the public schools, go on school tours and participate in “Realtors Read Across Pasadena”. It is called the Realtor Initiative. Next month this group is having its first in-person certification and school tour since 2019. This next course will be held at John Muir High School in late September. Drop me a line if you want more information about the program or to be connected with these great resources.

If you want to do some exploring about PUSD on your own. The main website at pusd.us is a launch point for information about the district as a whole, as well as linking to the web pages for individual schools. There is district-wide information about enrollment—tip: Enrollment for the 2023-24 school year begins in October, 2022!

You can enter an address and find the local schools, or see boundary maps at:
https://www.pusd.us/findmyschool

Individual school websites may include profiles of school-based programs, hours, and after-school programs.

I highly recommend you also check out you check out PEN’s website as well to find out more about networking with people already attending PUSD and find out about scheduling a school tour at : https://www.penfamilies.org/

If you want to know more about all the wonderful learning opportunities that are supported by PUSDs non-profit foundation I recommend you check out PEFs website at: https://pasedfoundation.org/

Even if you are not attending school yourself there is always something new to learn and ways to support the communities in which we live and work.
