The Impact of Working From Home

It looks like working from home, or at least a hybrid model with limited days of
commuting is here to stay. It has increased fivefold since the beginning of the
pandemic. Workers report their ability to work from home is worth as much as an
8% pay increase! Working from home two days a week reduces pollution by 15%
(through a combination of lower office energy bills and lower commuting
emissions).

We are seeing an impact on housing choices, to provide Internet bandwidth for one
or two from-home-workers, space for printers and other supportive technology,
separate office, Zoom, and multitasking space and, in the future, perhaps even wall-
sized screens for holographic meetings.
